Service Description

Childhood Cancer Careline (CCCL) advocates for families of children with cancer being treated in the Western Washington area. Assists with essential needs such as clothing, food cards, gas cards to provide transportation to the hospital, etc. Holds a family event once a year called Western Days. Provides emergency housing assistance which may include rental assistance, utility assistance, etc. Maintains an Adopt-A-Family/Holiday Program to relieve emotional and financial stress during the holidays. Forms for holidays can be found on website. Distributes educational assistance for children in treatment, including an advocacy program that may provide a laptop computer to the child.

Helps families make car repairs to ensure the child gets to the hospital. Is the only agency in Western Washington to assist with funeral and memorial arrangements and can negotiate rates with the funeral home as needed. Assists with funeral costs as funds allow. No cash is given to the families, as this may jeopardize their eligibility for state programs. Offers material, such as diapers, books for siblings to help them understand the situation and other educational materials on types of cancers the child may have. Advocates frequently for the family, such as an appearance at a school, family court, employers administration, advocate to landlords, etc.
